Atlantic Coast, Fleming Island, Parker among the qualifiers
It’s time to put down the calculators. Collect the soccer balls.
The Atlantic Coast, Fleming Island and Parker joined the list of Northeast Florida teams celebrating Sunday, as the Florida High School Athletic Association announced the final installments of the 2021 football playoffs.
For others, however – including St. Augustine, missing the playoffs for the first time since 1998 – the bubble has finally burst.
Three entirely local clashes will be on the schedule when the playoffs begin Friday night: Baker County in White, Parker in Raines and Riverside in Columbia, all rematch of the district competition.

The FHSAA used its RPI system – a mathematical formula that includes each team’s record as well as their opponents ‘and opponents’ records – to determine their overall qualifiers.
Rarely, four teams qualified from District 3-7A, with Atlantic Coast, Fleming Island and Nease joining District Champion Fletcher. All three overall teams likely needed to win their season finale to enter the pitch, and all three did, with the help of Panhandle losses by Navarre and Tallahassee Chiles.
White insisted on qualifying despite two forfeits due to an ineligible player, but went from a No.5 seed to a No.8.
But it wasn’t party time everywhere. Missing was St. Augustine, who has made all the playoffs since 1999. The Yellow Jackets’ three 6-3 losses – all close losses to top qualifiers Bartram Trail, Bolles and Gainesville – proved too difficult to overcome. in a crowded region 1. -6A.
Clay also missed the game, which finished 7-3 and beat Orange Park on Friday, but failed to make the top-eight in region 1-5A; West Nassau, edged (by a 0.001 margin) in Region 1-4A by Gadsden County despite their end-of-season victory at Ridgeview; and North Florida Educational, whose odds ended in a Week 11 loss to First Academy.
Class 3A saw a shake up in the rankings: Trinity Christian returned to seed No.1 in Region 1-3A despite losing to Tallahassee Lincoln, while Christian University went from No.1 to No.1. ° 3 after its last minute defeat against the Atlantic coast. This defeat cost UC a goodbye in the first round.
Union County, Northeast Florida’s lone undefeated team at 10-0, only received a No. 3 seed in Region 3-1A behind Chiefland and Hilliard. The Fightin ‘Tigers open the playoffs at home against Trenton.
