Two seaside resorts near Bristol among the “safest holiday destinations”

Weston-super-Mare and Clevedon are among the safest vacation destinations in the country, according to a new study.

Holiday company Hoo has ranked UK resorts based on the proportion of their populations vaccinated against Covid-19, dividing them into green, orange and red categories.

Cities are considered green if they have vaccinated more than 59% of their population.

In each of Clevedon and Weston, 65% of the respective populations received both jabs, which means towns fall into the green category.

Across England, 28.5 million people (around 51%) received the two injections of Covid, and another 10 million received a dose. Weston is therefore clearly above average.

The most recent data shows that there are around 232 cases of Covid in North Somerset per 100,000 population, which is slightly lower than the rate of 252 per 100,000 in England. However, rates for the Delta variant are increasing in Clevedon and Weston-super-Mare, as they are nationwide.

With vacations abroad still not on the agenda for many people, thanks to a limited green list of destinations, many Britons are turning to home vacations, or “staycations”. Holidays in Orange List countries are now more realistic, however, since the government announced today that fully vaccinated people and children will not have to be quarantined upon their return from these destinations.
